Truitt E. Byers

Truitt E. Byers, 54, died February 7, 2008 as a result of injuries sustained in the explosion at the Imperial Sugar Refinery. He was born in Argilite, Kentucky and lived in Savannah 34 years. Mr. Byers was an operator mechanic at the Refinery with twenty two years of service. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and Ancient Landmark Lodge No. 231 F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite Consistory-Valley of Savannah and a former member of the Alee Shrine where he was active with the Oriental Band Unit.

Surviving are his wife, Debra K. Byers of Savannah; son, Michael E. Byers of Savannah; daughter, Kalyn N. Byers of Savannah; sister, Carolyn Byers of Hooks, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Evalena Byers of Summerville, SC; sister, LeeAnn Gumble of Bromley, KY; nieces, Starla Myers of Sevierville, TN; Shelly and Shonna Waugh both of Hooks, TX; Crystal Poplin of Argilite, KY; Teressa Carlson of Charleston, SC; nephews, Duran Leadingham of South America; Randall Waugh of Hooks, TX; Jerry Byers, Jr. of Anderson, SC; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Russell and Connie Garrett, Jr. of Savannah; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Carl Hendricks, II of Guyton; brother-in-law, Russell Garrett, III of Richmond Hill; nephew, Courtland Hendricks of Guyton; nieces, Sutton and Sara Kate Garrett both of Richmond Hill and several other nieces and nephews.

Memorial Visitation: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2008 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Reverend Larry Williams, officiating.

Honorary Pallbearers will be, Carl Hendricks, II, Russell Garrett, III, Courtland Hendricks, Garry Hendricks, Benjie Jacobs, Ronnie Staggs, Paul Agrilla, Tony Sharpe and Jerry Byers, Jr.
